The 4 T to take Open Space Technology virtual

image from farm4.staticflickr.comWhoa, totally missed the APF #futrchat about Open Space co-hosted by @jenjarratt and  @urbanverse, even though it was announced with planetary timezones. Feels good to be missed, too, so thank you.

On the other hand, I brush off missed opportunities with a laconic "who knows what this may be good for" since in my teens I read about the power of positive thinking. So there.

Building on this example of an opportunity,  here the

    Emergent Eclipse and Probable Professions?

Yokohama Tsuzuki-ku P1030363pKirstin asked, I hope everyone enjoyed the solar eclipse yesterday!

So, I've been musing on what the next popular fields of work will be. The most recent wave we have seen rise is that of the Computer Programmer. What field of work do you think or hope is next? And what will disappear, as did thousands of carriage-makers with the rise of the automobile?

Well, yes, I enjoyed the eclipse. The clouds broke just enough to let it shine through for a minute or so, allowing the lens to catch dramatic lighting, unfiltered. The purple tint was not in the original picture. Unretouched photo set on flickr.

The Next Edge - everyone is a beginner

Beaker Muppet 3945605068_8e95776d5cCurrent personal learning and research focuses to find models for what the next edge in tools to work together could be. Trial and error suggests: We are beginners all over. Many initiatives are active and successful in bringing people together, yet there may be a next edge in the very real need for meta-networking, a diplomacy and a discipline like the emergent occupy sense-making. We are manifesting the foresight of Net Gain, the 1997 subversive book by John Hagel,  III and Arthur G. Armstrong. With our improving toolset, we are beginning on a large scale to connect the connectors and their networks, help them share workable practice, to get their shift done.

    Engaged Economy

Flickr.com_photos_simonverrall_3436727439 Sparked by a good month of #Occupy movement, people are engaged against, networking against. Say what?

Much of what people are against happens behind closed doors. Fine for private matters, but there are no private politics. There should not be. The people occupy - against. They are engaged and do gain attention.

    Cashierless checkout, #unoccupied

image from www.flickr.comSelf-service reaches a new level in Japan. Seen in a store of the LOPIA chain, these self-checkout terminals combine a touch screen, barcode scanner, digital scales, cash feeds (coin and paper) and card payment slots, plus a  hanger bar for the shopping bag that must be used to start the process. Not appearing in the photos are the overhead cameras, likely used as a cheat deterrent.

    8 Workplace Operation System Upgrades

(Originally promised at Important Upgrade for Workplace Operation System)

Blog title graphic pencils cope, connect, cocreate, upgrade.001 Dissatisfied with something about your workplace? Here is an upgrade you can install... if it only were this easy.

Unless we know what your values and people platforms are, it would not make sense to recommend any specific operation system. So I pull together a few approaches instead, from a wide range, hoping you may find routines and systems that fit your operations and values context.   What follows are mostly snippets, not my own words, but my own filter-focus-amplify. Take what suits your needs, ignore the rest or pass it on to a friend.

Crowdsourcing to improve a standard. The ISO 9001 survey.

Here is a rare chance to experience and get insights into how an organization approaches their audience that buys and reads their kind of short books: standards.

image from www.iso.orgMillions of organizations use ISO 9001, for example as a contract supplement for business-to-business transactions. The standard specifies generic requirements for a quality management system, aimed at enhancing trust a company can deliver what they promise. It mainly does this through specifying a few generic processes, through internal and external auditing and by continual improvement. The standard comes on 35 pages for some $120. No, I do not sell it and I do not benefit from its sales.

If you or your company is using or influenced by the ISO 9000 series of standards in any significant way, please take the ISO 9000 Survey. It takes about 30 minutes. The time you save may be your own, whether you read for interest, apply for improvement, get certified, audit for compliance, or consult for others. How? Imagine the ways this collaboration shapes the next revision of the standard.

Got stories? How about shares in a new economy?

Shares in a new economy, yes - just been there, done that. Let me explain and  "share" my story.

At the time of this writing, the Symbionomics project by Alan Rosenblith and Jay Standish shows following statistics on Kickstarter:

Remote coach: learn to ride a bicycle

Trying a remote course here. Yes, there are people who did not learn to ride the bike as a kid and as an adult they may feel shy asking for help.

You provide the bicycle (maybe with Santa's help) , find a clear and undisturbed open space and motivate the student. If student is a minor, adult guidance is needed. Fear is not needed. No training wheels, ever.

What is in it for you: You can teach yourself or your child to ride the bicycle in a few 10-15 minute sessions until comfortable to ride in a safe space. This is not for traffic, additional skills are needed before riding in traffic, mostly on orientation and traffic safety rules.
